The Academy camera was a magazine hand camera advertised to be used by the tourist, the artist, the detective, and the military man. A tray attached underneath the camera carried twelve plates measuring 3 1/4” by 4 1/4”, The camera was based on a patent by Warwick Brookes of Manchester and a rotary shutter patented by J. and W.I. Chadwick. The Academy was made in seven models. The No. 4A was made of the best mahogany and included a pair of Marion & Co. rectilinear lenses.
